The Joey Marchy Interview

Yo bros and hos. Unless you refuse to read local weblogs, which may or may not make you a better person, you’ve probably pumped Urban Jacksonville thru your googoo reader or kindle stick nanopod. If so, then you know that Monsignor Joey Marchy is a professional bro who rootrootrooots for the home team. Betweeen his blog, webshow, and family, Joey’s a busy hombre. Lucky for you, the New Zoo Crew (whacksonville.com) was able to snare this rabbit and find what makes him tick. And tock. Whether he’s lending us legitimacy or we’re lending him “street cred,” here goes! Give a warm Whacksonville welcome to two-thousand-and-ten-time Folio Best Blogger Joey Marchy!
When is your next performance/show/showdown? Explain.
Every Monday we perform on the Internets for you at UrbanJacksonvilleWeekly.com. It’s like Urban Jacksonville, but way more interesting and a lot more technologically challenged. 9:30am and you can catch the audio replay on the blog and subscribe at iTunes.
Have you ever partied too hard?
Yeah, but not so much anymore.
What’s the best way to get high without using drugs?
Huffing Big Dunn’s armpits
Have you ever “crunched the numbers” and just come up short?
Absolutely, but coming up short breeds innovation and urgency. Please refer to the Jaguars marketing playbook for 2010.
What’s the best thing to eat at the Jacksonville landing?
Coastal Cookies dawg! No doubt.
Name one song that brings back a childhood memory. What’s the memory of?
Any song from Public Enemy’s “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”. I was 11 and it was the first time I heard hip hop. I listened to that tape all summer. Mowing the grass, skateboarding, whatever. It was awesome. I distinctly remember being my my back yard with my Sony Walkman and thinking “this is my music”.
Do you ever explore the limits of the human body?
Only when I’m running.
How many computers do you plan on buying in your lifetime?
Everything will have a computer in it soon, so lots. I love computers so I’ll take them anywhere I can get them » ” Computers in my lap, computers in tha sack. ‘puters in my phone, ‘puters, ‘puters in my phone” – sung to Rob Roy’s Fur in my Cap.
What do you think is Jacksonville’s “best kept secret”?
Hart Bridge Expressway from Downtown to the Southside. Close second: FREE 1-hour parking validation at the Main Library if you park in the Duval Street parking ramp. Don’t pay for parking in the CBD ever again!
Identify the better limb: arm, wing, pincer.
Wing, no doubt. What would appetizers be without them?
If you chopped the head off the Andrew Jackson statue downtown, with whose head would you choose to replace it?
Tony Allegretti. He’s someone I look up to and respect who grinds hard for this city every day. It’s people who think and act like him that will lead this city forward. Opinionated, questioning, fearless, respected, innovative, motivated.
Do you purchase the extended warranty?
Nah, that’s for suckers.
What’s the best thing to drink?
Coffee, then beer, then diet coke.
Have you ever been electrocuted?
No, that would suck.
Do you ever yearn?
Absolutely. I like to write about “dumb stuff happening in Jacksonville, Florida, and actionable strategies for improving the city”, so I do want a better, more fun city for my kids, my wife and myself. I want them to have a city they love and fiercely defend to anyone who says otherwise. I don’t want to live or have them grow up in a place that is viewed as a joke nationally, so I’m working to make it better. You might say I yearn for that.
Duuuuvaaaaal!

That art is much better. Thanks for the MS Paint job.
Is that the real Tom P? The punctuationally sparse rambling reminds me of someone else. Someone a little more whacky.
The comment I wanted to respond to from “Tom P” is gone. I’ll reserve my response until it show up again.
a great interview
Joey is the fuckin’ bomb
the King of Jville
How the hell did I miss this before? Joey Marchy rocks. He’s a Jax trailblazer if there ever was one.
